Society Rock Out Of Gr1 Sprint Cup

Wednesday, 4th September 2013

Top UK sprinter Society Rock (Rock of Gibraltar-High Society, by Key of Luck) will not defend his title in Saturday's Gr1 Haydock Sprint Cup (1200m) due to a head knock sustained last weekend, reports sportinglife.com. The dual Gr1 winner of the Golden Jubilee Stakes & last year's Haydock Sprint Cup is reported to have fallen and banged his head at trainer Jamie Fanshawe's stable on Sunday. "Society Rock had a fall (on Sunday afternoon) and suffered a bang to his head," read a statement posted on the trainer's website. "He has some concussion and is receiving medical treatment from the vets at Newmarket Equine Hospital. He remains at Pegasus Stables, is bright, standing up and eating. The 6YO has been in excellent form this campaign, winning the Gr2 Duke Of York Stakes in May before finishing runner-up to Lethal Force in both the Gr1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes & the Gr1 July Cup.
