Special Harmony Sibling To Debut Today
The Chris Waller-trained 3YO Abbasso (Encosta de Lago-Marooned Lady, by Marooned), a half-brother to VRC Oaks winner Special Harmony, will step out for the first time in the Australian Turf Club Handicap (1250m) at Canterbury today. Bred by Bradley thoroughbreds, the chestnut colt (who has inherited the same distinctive hue as his mother) was knocked down to Blandford Bloodstock for $375,000 at the 2012 Inglis Sydney Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Coolmore as agent. Special Harmony was an outstanding mare who retired with 10 wins from 23 starts and earnings of $1,879,580. The daughter of Spinning World was blessed with a brilliant turn of foot which she deployed in devastating fashion to claim three Gr1s, namely the MRC One Thousand Guineas, Arrowfield Stud Stakes (now the Vinery Stud Stakes) & the abovementioned VRC Oaks. Abbasso & Special Harmony's dam is the Marooned mare Marooned Lady who won 2 of 12 starts including the Gr3 WATC Sires' Produce Stakes. Marooned Lady has also produced the Gr2 winning brothers King Canute (WATC Perth Cup) & Redwoldt (WATC Karrakatta Plate), both of whom are by King Of Kings.
