Strong Mandate Wins US Gr1 Hopeful Stakes

At Saratoga in the US, 2YO colt Strong Mandate (Tiznow-Clear Mandate, by Deputy Minister) scored a runaway 9.75-lengths victory for trainer D. Wayne Lukas in the US$300,000 Gr1 Hopeful Stakes (7 furlongs) for 2YOs, over fellow colts Casiguapo (Sightseeing-Emerald Buddha, by Buddha) & Lunarwarfare (War Pass-Lunar Star, by Silver Ghost). This was Strong Mandate's maiden Gr1 success and took his record to 2 wins from 3 starts for US$230,400 earnings. Hall Of Fame horseman Lukas, who was celebrating his 78th birthday, confirmed the Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Santa Anita on November 2nd is Strong Mandate's ultimate goal. "We were pointing to the Breeders' Cup long before we won this," Lukas told bloodhorse.com. "He's a big, strong, powerful horse…this is a pretty good horse."
