HK Attendance Revival Underpins Record Turnover
A revival of racecourse attendance last season has contributed to record turnover for the Hong Kong Jockey Club, reports racing.scmp.com a few days prior to the start of their new season. While overall attendance of over 2 million at Sha Tin and Happy Valley was the highest in a decade, the latter's season-ending Lunar New Year raceday was a capacity 119,000, the first time it has been full for some time. The upshot for the Club was "racing turnover jumping 12.3 per cent to a record HK$94.4 billion." As a result, "Total tax payments by the club, including betting duties and profits tax, rose 9.1 per cent to a record HK$17.64 billion."
