McDonald Praises Kiwi 3YO

Thursday, 5th September 2013

The Bruce Wallace-trained New Zealand 3YO Fast Dragon (Fastnet Rock-Secret Silence, by Fusaichi Pegasus) has been given the thumbs up by jockey James McDonald ahead of the Gr3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) at Randwick this Saturday, reports NZ Racing Desk. McDonald, who rode Fast Dragon when the colt finished 6th in the Gr3 San Domenico Stakes a fortnight ago, will hand the reigns over to Leith Innes this weekend due to riding commitments in Melbourne. "James has been working him and he's really confident in his ability and gave him a good gallop last week and on Tuesday morning," explained Wallace. "Leith Innes will ride him this weekend over the 1400 metres and then the Gloaming and all going well the Gr1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m)." Wallace says he was far from disappointed with Fast Dragon's Australian debut and is expecting the son of Fastnet Rock to improve over more ground. "He was just four lengths off what, give or take, were the best three-year-olds in New South Wales at that stage," Wallace said. "James said he did his best work over the last 100 metres."
