Frankel Sister New Family Black-Type Winner

Friday, 6th September 2013

After putting the black type writing on the wall with a competitive third at her second start in the Gr3 Royal Ascot Albany Stakes, a run that followed a slashing debut victory in a 2YO Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Lingfield in late May, Champion Frankel's younger half-sister Joyeuse (Oasis Dream-Kind, by Danehill) graduated to stakes class overnight. The victory came in the Listed Dick Poole Fillies' Stakes (6 furlongs) at Salisbury. Trained by Lady Cecil for owner Khalid Abdullah, Joyeuse had a neck to spare on the line over Fastnet Rock's daughter Dorothy B (ex Slow Sand, by Dixieland Band) and fellow Oasis Dream 2YO filly Wedding Ring (ex Cast in Gold, by Elusive Quality). Jockey Tom Queally praised the highly valuable filly, but noted she is still very much a work in progress, reports thoroughbreddailynews.com, "She really lengthened home and battled well enough, but there is more to come ... There isn't an instant 'whoosh' and upwards in trip is the way to go from now on. She's grown up a terrible amount, but is still a bit unsure of herself in the business end, so I just gave a little lovetap near the line. She is very sensible in her own mind, so she'll be spot-on for whatever targets connections have in mind for her now. Getting her past this test will open up more doors for her."
