Champion US Mare Scuttles Her Critics

Wednesday, 11th September 2013

At Presque Isle Downs in the US, champion 5YO mare Groupie Doll (Bowman's Band-Deputy Doll, by Silver Deputy) set a track-record time when scoring by 1.5-lengths for trainer William Bradley in the US$400,000 Gr2 Presque Isle Downs Masters Stakes (6.5 furlongs) for 3YO+ f&m, over fellow 5YO mare Purely Hot (Pure Prize-Wood Not, by Kissin Kris) & 4YO mare Judy The Beauty (Ghostzapper-Holy Blitz, by Holy Bull). Groupie Doll, who put in a below par run at her penultimate start, took her record to 10 wins (including the Gr1 Madison Stakes, Gr1 Humana Distaff Stakes & Gr1 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint) & 7 placings (including the Gr1 Cigar Mile Handicap & last-start Gr3 Gardenia Stakes) from 19 starts. Groupie Doll's next start will be in the Gr2 Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes at Keeneland before bidding for back-to-back Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprints at Santa Anita.
