Eddie Hayson Warned Off For 6-Months
In NSW, Eddie Hayson has been warned off all racecourses under the control of Racing NSW for a period of 6 months effective from Tuesday, 10 September 2013. Mr Hayson had refused to provide stewards with the names of two persons, one of whom he said had a connection with the Gai Waterhouse stable, that had provided him with confidential information regarding More Joyous before she raced in the All Aged Stakes at Randwick earlier this year. Racing NSW deemed that Mr Hayson's refusal to divulge these sources hindered the investigation of stewards into whether any persons had breached the Rules of Racing by disclosing that confidential information. On Thursday 5 September, Mr Hayson and his legal counsel appeared before a Hearing Committee under the delegated authority of Racing NSW Chief Executive Peter V'landys and asked to Show Cause why action should not be taken against him. In announcing the decision, Mr V'landys stated: "Racing NSW is on record time and again as saying integrity in this industry is paramount. Accordingly, no individual's interest should outweigh the confidence of the public, and particularly punters, in the integrity of the industry."
