Keeneland Sep Day-1: US$267,192 Average

Wednesday, 11th September 2013

The opening day of the 70th Keeneland September Yearling Sale at Lexington, Kentucky concluded on Monday with 130 yearlings selling for US$34,735,000. The average was US$267,192 and the median was US$200,000. Keeneland has reformatted this year's sale by expanding Book 1 to comprise the first four sessions of the sale. Consequently, there are no comparable figures for 2012. "I thought the market today was very good," said Keeneland Director of Sales Geoffrey Russell. "We saw a wide range of buyers, representing domestic and international owners as well as end-users and pinhookers. That was one of our goals with the format change: to get more buyers on the grounds." Four yearlings sold for US$1 million or more with a filly by Medaglia d'Oro out of the A.P. Indy mare Flying Passage topping the session at $US1.5 million.
