Chapple-Hyam Targets 'Home' Win In Cox Plate
UK galloper Mull Of Killough (Mull of Kintyre-Sun Shower, by Indian Ridge) will enter quarantine later this week in preparation for a tilt at the $3 million Gr1 WS Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 26, reports racinguk.com. Expatriate trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam is hoping that the 7YO dual Gr3 winner can acquit himself well in her home city next month. "He goes into quarantine on Thursday. He will spend a fortnight here in quarantine and then another fortnight at Werribee (International Horse Centre) on the other side," explained Chapple-Hyam. "He's been invited to the Cox Plate and when you are asked to something like that, you don't turn it down." She added, "I'm from Melbourne so it would be great to win a race like that. It is their premier weight-for-age race and you just don't turn down invitations like that." The Irish-bred middle distance galloper has won 8 of his 28 starts and despite his advancing years appears to be improving with age, with three stakes victories (including the Gr3 Darley Stud Stakes & Gr3 Earl of Sefton Stakes) and a stakes placing from his last six outings. Mull Of Killough has been tested in Gr1 company twice, when finishing a creditable fifth in the Singapore Airlines International Cup in May & 8th in the Arlington Million last month.
