Zafeen Sires First Stakes Winner
French filly This Time (Zafeen-Scalotta, by Winged Love) became the first stakes winner for her sire Zafeen when claiming the Gr3 Prix d'Arenberg at Chantilly on Tuesday, reports bloodstock.racingpost.com. The Henri-Alex Pantall-trained 2YO, who descends from a family that includes Irish Gr3 winner Lady Springbank, is from Zafeen's first French conceived crop. The 13YO son of Zafonic has stood at Haras du Petit Tellier in France since 2010 and previously spent four years at Overbury Stud in Gloucestershire under the management of Darley. The Mick Channon-trained Zafeen (Zafonic-Shy Lady, by Kaldoun) was a classy juvenile winning the Gr2 Mill Reef Stakes and finishing a close second to Elusive City in the Gr1 Prix Morny. During his classic season, he finished second in the English 2,000 Guineas behind Refuse To Bend before claiming his only Gr1 victory in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, defeating Hold That Tiger.
