Rodd Wary Of Unlucky Import

Friday, 13th September 2013

Jockey Michael Rodd is justifiably bullish about the prospects of Super Cool (Fastnet Rock-Queen Mother, by Kingmambo) in Saturday's Gr2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley but is wary of talented import Fiorente, reports horseracing.com.au. Super Cool caught the eye when resuming with a fast-finishing third behind superstar mare Atlantic Jewel in the Memsie Stakes a fortnight ago, but Rodd is acutely aware that the Gai Waterhouse-trained Fiorente (Monsun-Desert Bloom, by Pilsudski) had plenty of excuses. The Irish bred 6YO entire not only missed the start, but was unable to obtain a clear passage at the business end of the race. Rodd said of Super Cool: "He looks fantastic, that run really tightened him up and his coat is really starting to come through now." He added, "Everybody knows what happened to Fiorente (in the Memsie Stakes), he stepped away from the barriers a little bit slow and you can't afford to do that in these big races. He is definitely a class horse and one to watch." Rodd's assessment of the race is reflected in TAB betting, with Super Cool ($3.20) only slightly favoured ahead of Fiorente ($3.30).
