Tough Road Ahead For Groupie Doll
US champion female sprinter Groupie Doll (Bowman's Band-Deputy Doll, by Silver Deputy) has returned to her base at Churchill Downs in "great shape" following her track-record win in Monday's Gr2 Presque Isle Downs Masters Stakes, reports drf.com. The 5YO triple Gr1-winner will now shift her attention to her next two assignments, namely the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes at Keeneland on October 5, and the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint at Santa Anita on November 2. However, trainer Buff Bradley acknowledged that Groupie Doll's quest for successive Breeders' Cup titles would be far more difficult this year. Firstly, Groupie Doll has faced the starter on just two occasions this year and secondly, the opposition seems deeper and more formidable with prospective rivals such as Reneesgotzip, Dance to Bristol & Book Review also in fine form. "I know those other fillies are out there, but I haven't paid that much attention," said Bradley. "I've just really been focused on getting my mare right. We're running in the Breeders' Cup no matter what, so I can't worry about what all the others are doing."
