Orfevre Leads Japanese Double At Longchamp

Tuesday, 17th September 2013

Champion Japanese galloper Orfevre (Stay Gold-Oriental Art, by Mejiro McQueen) showed he was primed to avenge last year's unlucky Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe loss with a stunning win in the Gr2 Prix Foy at Longchamp. The five-time Gr1 winner was never out of second gear as he cruised to an effortless 3-length victory over Very Nice Name & Pirika. The 5YO entire exploded to the lead with a brilliant turn of foot before easing down almost as quickly in a performance that oozed class. The win convinced winning jockey Christophe Soumillon that an Arc victory was just around the corner. "After a performance like that, there's not much more I can say," said Soumillon. "I knew he was in good form, but that was better than I expected. You can't change what happened last year but we can go back to the Arc with confidence." Earlier on the card, fellow Japanese galloper Kizuna (Deep Impact-Catequil, by Storm Cat) got up in the final stride to narrowly defeat English Derby winner Ruler Of The World in the Gr2 Prix Niel. The exciting son of Deep Impact took his record to 6 wins from 8 starts.
