Valuable Fastnet Rock Filly Salutes On Debut
The well-bred first-timer Mean Streak (Fastnet Rock-Candy Vale, by Bubble Gum Fellow) made a winning debut in the Donate To Blue Ribbon Foundation F&M Maiden Plate (1200m) at Kilmore yesterday. Despite showing signs of greenness, the daughter of Australia's current leading stallion Fastnet Rock ran home strongly along the fence in driving rain to post a narrow 0.1-length win over Astronomer Royal filly Aurora Miss. Trained by Robert Smerdon, Mean Streak races in the same colours as champion filly Mosheen for owner Phil Sly. Mean Streak was purchased by Bahen Bloodstock for $275,000 on behalf of Sly at the 2012 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Newhaven Park. From the Gr2 Sunline Stakes winner Candy Vale, Mean Streak is a three-quarter brother to the stakes-placed Candy Stripes (Commands). The talented Candy Vale was also runner-up to Roman Arch in the 2006 Gr1 Australian Cup.
