Friday Return For Shanghai Bobby

Wednesday, 18th September 2013

Shanghai Bobby, last year's champion US 2YO male, will resume from a 5-month spell in the US$100,000 Aljamin Stakes (6.5 furlongs) for 3YOs at Belmont Park this Friday, reports bloodhorse.com. The 3YO colt, who was undefeated in 5 starts as a juvenile including a win in the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile, will be striving for his first victory of 2013. In April, Shanghai Bobby (Harlan's Holiday-Steelin', by Orientate) was diagnosed with a pelvic stress fracture that forced him to miss the 3YO Triple Crown season. According to his trainer Todd Pletcher, Shanghai Bobby could target the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile at Santa Anita or the Cigar Mile Handicap at Aqueduct later in the year if he performs strongly on Friday. "We're very pleased with the way he has been coming back," Pletcher said from his Saratoga base. "He's grown up a bit, and it'd be good to get him started on a positive note. The first thing we need to see is a solid run from him on Friday."
