Silent Achiever Bidding For Kiwi Treble
Gr1-winning mare Silent Achiever (O'Reilly-Winning Spree, by Zabeel) will bid to become the third consecutive New Zealand-trained winner of the Gr1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on Saturday, reports NZ Racing Desk. Ocean Park won last year's Underwood en route to his Cox Plate triumph while the Murray Baker-trained Lion Tamer won the race in 2011. Cambridge trainer Roger James says Silent Achiever's primary spring objectives are the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups but that he believes she can still be competitive on Saturday. "Our main aim is the two cups," said Rogers. "She drops in weight markedly in them, but it would be lovely to think we're competitive in these weight-for-age races on the way to them." The 2012 NZ Derby winner has been allotted 53kg in the Caulfield Cup and 52.5kg in the Melbourne Cup. "The good thing about her is that this time last year she wasn't feeding (sic) well and I was up against it really," added James. "This preparation she has been very good and is probably in the best order of her life." Twenty-six horses have been nominated for the Underwood, including top-rated mare Atlantic Jewel, It's A Dundeel, Puissance De Lune, Foreteller, Green Moon, Sea Moon, Hawkspur and Ethiopia.
