Top Sprints At Via Africa's Mercy

Wednesday, 18th September 2013

Outstanding South African sprinting mare Via Africa (Var-Bump 'n Grind, by Qui Danzig) resumed off a 4-month break to score an emphatic 5.25-lengths win over 1000m at Clairwood on Sunday, reports goldcircle.co.za. The Duncan Howells-trained mare, who was racing for the first time since winning the Gr1 South African Fillies Sprint (1200m) at Scottsville in May, appears to have returned bigger and better than ever with Howells describing her post-race as "exceptional". The 4YO daughter of Var seemingly has South Africa's top sprinting races at her mercy now that Equus Champion Sprinter What A Winter has been retired. She will now head to Cape Town with the Gr1 Cape Flying Championship (1000m) her main target. Via Africa took her record to 7 wins from 10 starts for over R1 million in prize-money.
