Al Kazeem Going For Arc

Thursday, 19th September 2013

UK galloper Al Kazeem (Dubawi-Kazeem, by Darshaan) has been given the green light to contest the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (12 furlongs) next month, reports racingpost.com. Owned and bred by John Deer, Al Kazeem has been one of the stars of the British flat racing season with Gr1 victories in the Tattersalls Gold Cup, Prince of Wales's Stakes and Coral-Eclipse Stakes. His most recent performance saw him finish runner-up in the Gr1 Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown, where he was unable to repel the electrifying late burst of John Gosden's outstanding mare The Fugue. Deer and Al Kazeem's trainer Roger Charlton have been ruminating about an Arc start for quite some time, with the Gr1 Champion Stakes also under consideration, but the 5YO will line up at Longchamp on October 6. Charlton took to Twitter to express his delight. "Exciting and great news, Al Kazeem is being aimed at the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and he will be ridden by James Doyle." As always, Europe's weight-for-age championship promises to be a star-studded affair with the likes of Orfevre, Novellist, The Fugue, Treve, Leading Light, Camelot, Ruler Of The World, Dunaden, Kizuna & Intello all nominated for the feature race.
