BREAKING NEWS: NZB Expands Karaka Million Series

Thursday, 19th September 2013

In breaking news, NZ Bloodstock’s Karaka Million Race Series is set to get bigger and better with the addition of a new race and an increase in prizemoney. In addition to the existing NZ$1 million Karaka Million 2YO feature, yearlings entering the Series at the 2014 Karaka Sales will be eligible for a richer NZ$250,000 Karaka 3YO Mile (an increase of NZ$150,000) plus, a new third race, the NZ$100,000 Karaka Stayers Cup, an open event over 2200m. This race will be added to the racecard from this January and until 2018 will be open to all Karaka Yearling Sale graduates whether they have ever been entered in the Karaka Million or not. From 2018, this race will be restricted to Karaka Million Series eligible horses, with this year’s yearlings then five-year-olds. For a full breakdown of what’s involved, including comments from NZB co-managing director Petrea Vela, click on the Karaka Million link in this item.
