Keeneland Sep Day-8: Median Increases 50%
At Tuesday's eighth session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale at Lexington, Kentucky, 303 yearlings sold for US$16,383,000, representing a 40.6 per cent increase on last year's corresponding session when 302 yearlings grossed US$11,648,500. Tuesday's average of US$54,069 was up 40.2 per cent on last year's figure, while the US$45,000 median was 50 per cent above 2012. Keeneland officials reported they could not recall so much activity this late in the sale, with buyers from the US and from around the world competing for horses. "We had buyers from Korea, Japan, Russia, Central and South America, and Europe in addition to having a strong domestic market represented," Keeneland Director of Sales Geoffrey Russell said. Tuesday's session-topper was a well related colt by Afleet Alex from the Vindication mare Blowing Kisses which was knocked down to Tara Bella Farm for US$280,000. Blowing Kisses is out of the Gr1-winning mare Hookedonthefeelin, making her a half-sister to Gr1 winners Pussycat Doll (Real Quiet) & Jimmy Creed (Distorted Humor).
