Thursday, 19th September 2013

At Newcastle in NSW, Waikato Stud's Cox Plate winning stallion Savabeel (Zabeel-Savannah Success, by Success Express) added a group success when 3YO gelding Savvy Nature (Savabeel-Generous Nature, by Carnegie) scored by 1.5-lengths for trainer John O'Shea in the $150,000 Gr3 Spring Stakes (1600m) for 3YOs, over the filly Wordplay (Fastnet Rock-Cryptic Miss, by Snippets) & fellow gelding Happy Clapper (Teofilo-Busking, by Encosta de Lago). This was the promising Savvy Nature's first stakes victory and took his record to 2 wins & 2 placings from 4 starts for $119,150 earnings. O'Shea confirmed that Savvy Nature would have his next start in the $200,000 Gr3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 28. "He is a big gross colt who will thrive on racing," O'Shea told racingnetwork.com.au. "He is about 555kg today and I think his perfect racing weight will be about 540kg. Today was only his fourth ever start, there is good improvement in him."
