Mother Nature Causes Racing Cancellations Far And Wide
Each of Australia, Hong Kong and South Africa has endured race meeting cancellations over the weekend due to inclement weather. In Australia, Western Australia stewards were forced to postpone Saturday's Belmont Park meeting until Wednesday after sections of the track were deemed unsafe following a 'riding group' inspection. While South Africa's Durbanville meeting in Cape Town suffered a similar fate after continued heavy rainfall, the situation in Hong Kong was potentially more serious. The imminent approach of Typhoon Usagi left officials with little option, in light of potential safety issues, to call off yesterday's meeting at Sha Tin. It is hoped that the meeting can be rescheduled for October 31, pending government approval.
