Gloaming Distance Suits Fast Dragon

Tuesday, 24th September 2013

New Zealand colt Fast Dragon (Fastnet Rock-Secret Silence, by Fusaichi Pegasus) has an ideal opportunity to vindicate the high regard he is held in by connections in Saturday's $200,000 Gr3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) at Rosehill, reports NZ Racing Desk. The stakes winning 3YO has been below par in his two Australian runs so far this campaign but trainer Bruce Wallace is expecting a much improved showing when he steps up to 1800m on the weekend. "Fast Dragon needs the extra distance and this is the race that will tell us whether he is up to what we think he is," Wallace said. "He is a big colt and as a young horse he was a bit dumb but he is maturing." The son of Fastnet Rock holds entries in both the Gr1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) & Gr1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) on October 12. Wallace purchased Fast Dragon for $125,000 at the 2012 NZB Premier Yearling Sale on behalf of Hong Kong businessman and long-time client Peter Chu, who also races horses under the Able International banner.
