Mott Not Underestimating Princess Sylmar
US Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott says he is not underestimating star filly Princess Of Sylmar ahead of her clash with champion mare Royal Delta this weekend, reports bloodhorse.com. Two-time Eclipse award winner Royal Delta (Empire Maker-Delta Princess, by A.P. Indy) is set to defend her title in the Gr1 Beldame Invitational Stakes (9 furlongs) at Belmont this Saturday but faces her most challenging test in quite some time from the emerging Todd Pletcher-trained Princess Of Sylmar (Majestic Warrior-Storm Dixie, by Catienus), who has dominated the 3YO fillies division. The race promises to be an intriguing affair with both females in devastating form. Princess Of Sylmar has confirmed her status as North America's pre-eminent filly with three Gr1 victories at her past three starts, but Royal Delta is still the undisputed queen winning her last two outings, both at Gr1 level, by a combined margin of 15.25-lengths. "She's a serious filly," Mott said of Princess of Sylmar, who will be facing older horses for the first time. "You can't take her for granted. But Royal Delta is doing well. I would say it seems she's on the same path she was last year [en route to her second Breeders' Cup Distaff win]." Between them, Royal Delta (6) and Princess Of Sylmar (3) have won nine Gr1 races.
