TAS Vamos Stakes Elevated To Gr3 Status

Tuesday, 24th September 2013

Meanwhile, the Australian Pattern Committee's (AusPC) decision to approve the upgrading of the Vamos Stakes has been welcomed by Tasracing CEO Dr Eliot Forbes. The Vamos Stakes for fillies and mares in Tasmania will be elevated from listed status to Gr3 level in 2014, with prize-money increased to $125,000. The race will be run at The TOTE Racing Centre at Mowbray under lights on 19 February as part of the Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival (TSRC). Dr Forbes said the Vamos Stakes had consistently rated above its benchmark meeting Gr3 level. "The AusPC decision confirms the overall strength of key TSRC races," said Dr Forbes. The Vamos Stakes, first run in 2007, has been dominated in recent years by star Tasmanian mare Lady Lynette who proved successful on three occasions - breaking through in 2009 before returning for back-to-back victories in 2011/12.
