Prelude To Decide Eclair Big Bang Path

Thursday, 26th September 2013

Sunday's Gr3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) will determine the spring path of exciting 3YO Eclair Big Bang (Savabeel-Ennerdale, by Singspiel), reports NZ Racing Desk. The highly promising son of Savabeel has plenty of options open to him for the spring, including the Gr1 Cox Plate, Gr1 Victoria Derby & Gr1 Patinack Farm Classic, but which races he targets will depend on his performance this weekend when he steps up to seven furlongs for the first time. South Australian horseman Phillip Stokes says the Guineas Prelude will help him decide whether to stretch Éclair Big Bang out over a longer journey or restrict him to sprint distances. "Sunday is a big test, we'll know where we're at after that," Stokes said. "We've been doing a lot of work with him behind horses, he's been relaxing, everything points to him running a distance, but time will tell." Stokes says the New Zealand-bred Éclair Big Bang, a winner of 2 of his 3 starts, has improved since his last start third in the Gr2 Danehill Stakes behind Charlie Boy, whom he re-opposes on Sunday, and rates his fitness level at about 90 per cent.
