Triple US Gr1 Winner Retired For Stud
American Triple Gr1 winner Richard's Kid (Lemon Drop Kid-Tough Broad, by Broad Brush) has been retired due to a tendon tear, reports bloodhorse.com. The 8YO son of Lemon Drop Kid and multiple stakes-winning mare Tough Broad won 12 times, including the Gr1 Del Mar Pacific Classic Stakes (twice) & the Gr1 Oak Tree Goodwood Stakes, for earnings of US$2,482,201. The Maryland-bred Horse Of The Year in 2009 & 2010 was an owner's dream "hitting the board" 27 times in his 47 starts. Richard's Kid was a very talented racehorse, setting a Del Mar track record for 12 furlongs that still stands (2:29.22), as well as the Hollywood track record for 11 furlongs (2:16.43). Trainer Doug O'Neill said it was "a pleasure to have such an incredible gentleman of a horse in our barn…we wish him well in his next career at stud." Stud plans are yet to be announced.
