Montjeu Adds Ireland Gr2

Tuesday, 1st October 2013

At The Curragh in Ireland, deceased dual-Derby winning stallion & former shuttler Montjeu (Sadler's Wells-Floripedes, by Top Ville) added a group success when 2YO colt Geoffrey Chaucer (Montjeu-Helsinki, by Machiavellian) scored by 1.25-lengths for trainer Aidan O'Brien in the €100,000 Gr2 Beresford Stakes (8 furlongs) for 2YOs, over fellow colt Oklahoma City (Oasis Dream-Galaxy Highflyer, by Galileo) & Altruistic (Galileo-Altesse Imperiale, by Rock of Gibraltar). This was Geoffrey Chaucer's first black-type victory and took his record to 2 wins from 2 starts for €11,385 earnings. Geoffrey Chaucer, from the stakes-placed Machiavellian mare Helsinki, is a half-brother to multiple G1-winner & successful sire Shamardal. O'Brien, who won the race for the 13th time, confirmed post-race that the Gr1 Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster on October 26 would be Geoffrey Chaucer's next assignment.
