SAf Jockeys Run For Charity

Tuesday, 1st October 2013

Tuesday Odd-Spot: On Saturday October 26, jockeys at Cape Town's Elusive Fort Cape Classic meeting will run in a foot race for charity, reports goldcircle.co.za. The start will be the same as for a normal horse race, with the hoops wearing their silks set to break from the barriers over a sprint distance yet to be determined. In the antithesis of traditional weight-for-age racing, senior riders are hoping for some 'weight relief' in the form of a start, however local Jockey Academy riding master Terrence Welch has scotched that rumour, saying tongue-in-cheek: "Some of the older ones can really run." Behind the frivolity is an attempt to raise funds for the Cape Town Child Welfare Charity.
