Star US Filly Likely Finished For Year
Champion US filly Princess of Sylmar's owner Ed Stanco has intimated that she is likely to miss the rest of the year and be spelled for a 2014 campaign, reports drf.com. Princess Of Sylmar (Majestic Warrior-Storm Dixie, by Catienus) caused a minor upset when she beat champion US mare Royal Delta in last Saturday's Gr1 Beldame Invitational Stakes, becoming the first 3YO filly to win the race since Imperial Gesture in 2002. It was her eighth win in 10 starts and her fourth successive victory at Gr1 level, giving her undeniable claims to being North America's best female. Stanco has the option of supplementing Princess Of Sylmar for November's Breeders' Cup Distaff for a fee of $100,000, but he seems more than content with what his star filly has achieved this year. "I think she's done enough in her division," Stanco said. "She's done it all, and then she won against the top older female." He continued, "She got it done, stepped out of her class, took on the champ, and beat her. There's no more to do." Stanco said that two races he would like to target next year are the Gr1 Delaware Handicap in July & the Gr1 Personal Ensign at Saratoga in August.
