St Nicholas Abbey Continues Improving
Surgeons at Fethard Equine Hospital in County Tipperary, Ireland, say they "couldn't be happier" with the progress being made by injured star racehorse St Nicholas Abbey (Montjeu-Leaping Water, by Sure Blade), reports racingpost.com. The 6YO entire suffered a career-ending injury when he fractured his pastern and fetlock bones when breaking down during track work at Ballydoyle in July. Shortly after undergoing life-saving surgery, the weight-bearing pin inserted into his cannonbone broke and he had to have his leg placed in a cast in late August. "The surgeons at Fethard Equine Hospital couldn't be happier with St Nicholas Abbey's progress to date," Coolmore said on their website. "He is more mobile and is putting more confident weight on the injured leg." They went on to say, "St Nicholas Abbey's appetite is good and he continues to gain weight. His blood work remains stable and his medication has been much reduced." It is hoped that once he is fully recovered, the 6-time Gr1 winner will be able to have an active and productive career at stud.
