Breaking News: Maroney To Train Irish St Leger Winner For Cup
Recent Gr1 Irish St Leger winner Voleuse De Coeurs (Teofilo-Vadorga, by Grand Lodge) will be targeted at next month's Melbourne Cup after she was sold to continue her career in Australia, reports racingpost.com. Formerly trained by Dermot Weld, the 4YO mare will be trained by New Zealander Mike Maroney after his brother Paul secured the surprise deal yesterday on behalf of unnamed stable clients. Maroney won the Cup in 2000 with the Sir Tristram gelding Brew. Voleuse De Coeurs is a progressive mare who has won 5 of her 13 starts. Apart from the Irish St Leger (15.5 furlongs), her other stakes success was in the Listed Vintage Crop Stakes at Navan which was also over 15.5 furlongs. Voleuse De Coeurs will be immediately flown to Newmarket to enter quarantine and is expected to arrive in Australia on October 19.
