Waterhouse Bullish About Turnbull Duo

Thursday, 3rd October 2013

Randwick trainer Gai Waterhouse believes her two imported gallopers Fiorente & Glencadam Gold are "fabulous chances" in Saturday's $500,000 Gr1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington and has predicted they could even quinella the race, reports theinformant.co.nz. The Irish-bred 6YO Fiorente (Monsun-Desert Bloom, by Pilsudski) was a brilliant last-start winner of the Gr2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley, his first win since arriving in Australia, while fellow Irish-bred Glencadam Gold (Refuse to Bend-Sandrella, by Darshaan) ran an encouraging second to Moriarty in the Gr2 Hill Stakes at Randwick. "Damien (Oliver) partnered him this morning and he said Fiorente was really fluid in his action and glided over 1400 metres on the dirt," said Waterhouse. "I had the option of using the course proper but it was so windy here today I didn't. The two horses could easily run first and second." Glencadam Gold, who is being aimed at the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups, made the Turnbull final field after it was initially feared he would be an emergency. "Even though he (Glencadam Gold) has been racing back in the field, he is more a front running horse while Fiorente can take a position anywhere," added Waterhouse.
