Boban Waller's Best Epsom Chance

Friday, 4th October 2013

Sydney trainer Chris Waller believes a mentally rejuvenated Boban (Bernardini-Kenbelle, by Kenmar) is his stable's top chance in tomorrow's $500,000 Gr1 Epsom Handicap at Randwick, reports sportal.com.au. The talented, but previously enigmatic, Boban has returned a much better horse this season, with Waller putting it mainly down to maturity. The 4YO son of Darley stallion Bernardini is undefeated in two starts this campaign, the latest of which was a brilliant win in the Gr3 Bill Ritchie Handicap at Randwick. "It comes down to maturity, riding him quietly, teaching him a few things," explained Waller. "This is Sydney's Grand Final for the spring and you only get one crack at it. He deserves his chance." Waller has two other chances in Saturday's big race, namely Doncaster handicap winner Sacred Falls and last-start Gr2 Theo Marks winner Riva De Lago. Boban, winner of 5 of his 15 starts, is currently the $4.80 second favourite behind the Guy Walter-trained Toydini ($4.60).
