Final Mujadil Yearling Sold

Friday, 4th October 2013

Meanwhile, the sole yearling from the final crop of retired stallion Mujadil (Storm Bird-Vallee Secrete, by Secretariat) was sold to UK trainer Mick Channon at Wednesday's opening session of the Goffs Orby Sale in Ireland, reports bloodstock.racingpost.com. Fittingly, it was two trainers who have enjoyed plenty of success with Mujadil's progeny that fought out the final stages of bidding. Channon, who guided Singapore Lily to a Gr1 placing, had the final say over Richard Hannon (who trained Mujadil's Gr1 placed son Galeota) to secure the well-conformed filly for €75,000. The filly was consigned by Maurice Burns' Rathasker Stud, where 25YO son of Storm Bird is living out his retirement. "It's not often you have a horse who is the first of something or last of something who also happens to have the looks, but luckily this one did," Burns said. "Now I would be delighted if she could make a good racehorse." Mujadil covered three mares in 2011 but only one, Sinegronto, got in foal. "We decided to call it a day then," Burns added. "We didn't want him collapsing in the covering shed, he deserved a happy retirement." Among Mujadil's best performers is star sprinter Kingsgate Native, winner of the Gr1 Golden Jubilee Stakes & Gr1 Nunthorpe Stakes.
