Meandre Claims Gr1 On Appeal

Friday, 4th October 2013

French galloper Meandre has been reinstated as the winner of the Gr1 Preis von Europa after being controversially demoted last month, reports racingpost.com. Meandre and second-past-the-post Empoli were disqualified and placed third and fourth respectively in the Gr1 contest after being deemed guilty of causing interference to Earl Of Tinsdal, who was promoted to second. Vif Monsieur was consequently awarded the race. Connections of both Meandre and Empoli appealed the decision which was heard in Cologne on Wednesday. The hearing held that Empoli was most at fault, paving the way for Meandre to be cleared of any blame and reinstated as the winner. Meandre is expected to be supplemented today for Sunday's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
