Society Rock Retired To Stud

Friday, 4th October 2013

Top-class UK sprinter Society Rock (Rock of Gibraltar-High Society, by Key of Luck) has been retired, reports racinguk.com. It has been announced that the dual Gr1-winner will stand at Tally-Ho Stud in Ireland in 2014, although trainer James Fanshawe had hoped to send Society Rock to Ascot for Champions Day. After finishing runner-up to Lethal Force in the July Cup at his most recent outing, Society Rock suffered a fall when being prepared for the Sprint Cup at Haydock which left him with concussion. A statement on Fanshawe's website read: "Society Rock is improving all the time and we are very pleased with his progress. If his character comes out in his progeny they will be so tough. He was like a tiger in a race and the rougher it was, the angrier and more determined he was to win." Society Rock bows out the winner of 6 of 23 starts, including the Gr1 Golden Jubilee Stakes & Gr1 Haydock Sprint Cup, for earnings of £1,044,254.
