Tattersalls Oct Book 1 Day-1: Colt Smashes European Record

Wednesday, 9th October 2013

On Day-1 overnight of the annual Tattersalls October Book 1 Yearling, a colt by champion sire Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) set a new record when selling for 3.6 million guineas, knocking 200,000 guineas off the previous record established in 2000. Purchased by M.V.Magnier, the Newsells Park Stud-consigned colt is a half-brother to Gr1 English Oaks runner-up Secret Gesture. Equal to US$6 million & 4 million Euros, the price is the highest paid for a yearling anywhere in the world this year. Under-bidder at 3.5 million guineas was Sheikh Fahad whose agent David Redvers delivered an opening bid of 1 million guineas.
