Tattersalls Oct Book 1 Day-2: World Record Price For Filly
It took just one day for Europe's new record for a yearling – established on Day-1 of the Tattersalls October Book 1 Sale – to be swept aside. Overnight's Day-2 session at Tattersalls' October Book 1 Sale produced a 5 million guineas filly, some 92 percent more than the 2.6 million record from Day-1, setting a new world record price for a filly in the process. The price is equal to almost US$8.5 million. By Galileo, from a half-sister to exciting Darley sire New Approach, the filly is a full-sister to Gr1 English Oaks heroine Was. She was purchased from Lodge Park by Mandore International's Nicholas de Watrigant on behalf of Treve's owner Sheikh Joaan who buys under the Al Shaqab Racing banner. An elated de Watrigant enthused: "We bought her sister last year and we think she could be special, we didn't want to miss this one - let's hope she is the next Treve!" The filly will be trained by France's Andre Fabre.
