Dear Demi Fighting To Be Fit For Caulfield Cup

Friday, 11th October 2013

Warwick Farm horseman Clarry Conners is racing the clock to have Dear Demi (Dehere-Shirley, by Zabeel) at peak fitness for Saturday week's Caulfield Cup (2400m), reports sportsnews.com.au. The 4YO mare missed out on crucial conditioning when she was denied a clear passage in last weekend's Turnbull Stakes. "It was a stupid race," said a frustrated Conners. "My filly just went around, cantered around the track behind them, sprinted for two furlongs, couldn't get a run and he stopped riding her 200 metres from home." Conners added that Dear Demi had not lost any weight in the three weeks she has been in Melbourne, a concern for any trainer trying to get a horse to peak for a feature race. "We will press on…she will do a fair bit of fast work in between," he said.
