Connections Rethinking Princess Of Sylmar Plans
Owner Ed Stanco says he and trainer Todd Pletcher are having second thoughts about sending outstanding filly Princess Of Sylmar to the paddock and are contemplating running her in the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Distaff following a brilliant piece of track-work on the weekend, reports bloodhorse.com. It was thought that Princess of Sylmar would be given a break following a tough campaign that culminated in her brilliant victory in the Gr1 Beldame Stakes at Belmont two weeks ago where she defeated champion US mare Royal Delta. But Stanco said that she was working well and showing no signs of fatigue. "I'm expecting and hoping we go (to the Breeder's Cup), but Todd said we should wait until her next work a week from today before making a decision," Stanco said. "She worked well today and I loved the way she galloped out. Every indication is that she came out fine and she's happy." Stanco continued, "Before the Gr1 Alabama, we said this would be her last race. But then she knocked off the champ in the Beldame and the race didn't take a thing out of her. She just keeps bouncing back looking for more." The US$2 million Distaff is at Santa Anita on November 1st. Princess Sylmar has won 8 of her 10 starts, including 4 consecutive Gr1 victories, for US$1,607,220 earnings.
