Solzhenitsyn Wins Gr1 Toorak Handicap

At Caulfield, St Petersburg (Nureyev-Miss Bold Appeal, by Valid Appeal) celebrated a Gr1 success when 7YO gelding Solzhenitsyn (St Petersburg-Tri Victory, by Victory Dance) scored 1.25-lengths for trainer Robert Heathcote in the $400,000 Gr1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) for 3YO+, over 6YO French entire Trevieres (Gold Away-Castilly, by Inchinor) & 6YO gelding Blackie (Black Minnaloushe-Diamond Babe, by Stravinsky). This was Solzhenitsyn's second consecutive Toorak Handicap victory and took his record to 13 wins (including the Gr1 Toorak Handicap, Gr3 Lord Mayor's Cup - twice, & Listed Strawberry Road Handicap) & 11 placings (including the Gr1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes - twice, Gr2 Theo Marks Stakes & Gr2 Crystal Mile Handicap) from 34 starts for $1,086,014 earnings.
