Soft Ground Expected For British Champions Day
The all-important ground conditions are expected to be on the soft side for Qipco British Champions Day at Ascot this Saturday, reports sportinglife.com. After walking the track on Sunday, clerk of the course Chris Stickels described the going as good to soft & soft in places. "We've had 16mm since Thursday after a dry week before that. The wet weather we've had has turned it on the soft side," said Stickels. "It's a bit of an unsettled forecast for the week. There are more showers due on Monday. It's a bit early to be sure yet, but it looks like showers are due next weekend again." Meanwhile, the prospect of soft ground is not good news for Ballydoyle trainer Aidan O'Brien who says Gr1 winner Declaration Of War may reroute to the Breeders' Cup if he doesn't get conditions to suit. "Declaration Of War will run in one of the two races next week if the ground is good, otherwise he will go to America," O'Brien said.
