Leading UK Sprinter Retired To Stud

Wednesday, 16th October 2013

Dual Gr1 winner Reckless Abandon (Exchange Rate - Sant Elena, by Efisio), who was unbeaten during a stellar 2YO season, has been retired, reports racingpost.com. Sheikh Mohammed's bloodstock adviser John Ferguson revealed the 3YO colt will join Darley's stallion roster at Kildangan Stud next year after being withdrawn from Saturday's British Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot. "It is the end of one chapter and the beginning of another," commented trainer Clive Cox. "He was an amazing two-year-old and this year was pretty special too. He was a very good horse, very talented - to have two sprinters like him and Lethal Force [winner of the Diamond Jubilee and July Cup] at the same time was special." Reckless Abandon, who won all five starts as a juvenile last year, including the Gr1 Prix Morny & Gr1 Middle Park Stakes, failed to recapture that form this season as a 3YO. He retires with £372,939 in earnings.
