Retired Quintessential Booked To Fastnet

Wednesday, 16th October 2013

New Zealand-bred mare Quintessential (Fast 'n' Famous-Florette, by Sword Dance) has been retired with a confirmed booking to leading stallion Fastnet Rock, reports NZ Racing Desk. The Queensland Oaks winning 5YO struggled when working alongside fellow New Zealand mare Silent Achiever at Flemington yesterday morning prompting connections to abandon Caulfield Cup plans and pull the pin on her racing career. New Zealand-based bloodstock consultant Adrian Clark tweeted: "Quintessential has been retired - sound and healthy but won't run in Caulfield Cup - booked to Fastnet Rock." Clark told NZ Racing Desk: "She didn't show her usual zest and she's usually a fantastic trackworker. Silent Achiever had her covered and that's not good enough going into a Caulfield Cup." Quintessential bows out the winner of 6 of 25 starts, including the Gr2 Eagle Farm Cup, Gr3 Chairman's Handicap & Gr3 Desert Gold Stakes, for $778,559 earnings.
