Guelph Wins Gr1 Thousand Guineas

At Caulfield, Darley's incumbent Champion Australian Sire Exceed And Excel (Danehill-Patrona, by Lomond) added a Gr1 success when outstanding 3YO filly Guelph (Exceed and Excel-Camarilla, by Elusive Quality) scored by 1.75-lengths for trainer Peter Snowden in the $500,000 Gr1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) for 3YO fillies, over fellow fillies May's Dream (New Approach-She's Archie, by Archway) & Gregers (Commands-Satnav, by Canny Lad). Guelph took her record to 7 wins (including the Gr1 Flight Stakes, Gr1 Champagne Stakes, Gr1 Sires' Produce Stakes, Gr2 Tea Rose Stakes & Gr3 Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies) & 2 placings (including the Gr2 Furious Stakes) from 11 starts for $1,608,200 earnings. After the event, jockey Kerrin McEvoy labelled her the best filly he has ever ridden.
