BOBS Extended To Mare Owners

Friday, 18th October 2013

Racing NSW has announced that its highly successful Breeders Owners Bonus Scheme (BOBS) has been expanded to encompass broodmare owners. Effective January 1st 2014, owners of broodmares, at the time of the foal return, will also receive a BOBS bonus when nominated offspring win a BOBS bonus in NSW. In recognition of the contribution mare owners make to the racing industry, Racing NSW has introduced a 2.5 per cent mare owner bonus which comes at no cost to the mare owner. The 2.5 per cent bonus will be payable to the registered breeder, as set out in the Australian Stud Book, of any horse who wins a BOBS or BOBS Extra bonus from January 1. "The inclusion of broodmares in the BOBS bonus scheme adds another level of sophistication to what is already the best bonus payment system in Australia," said Racing NSW Chief Executive, Peter V'landys. "What was seen as a system of bonus payments which touched on many diverging areas of racing, from stallions to owners and trainers and jockey welfare, has now spread to include owners of broodmares, making the scheme more valuable to all participants in the breeding industry."
