Florida Track Offers US$1M Kentucky Derby Bonus
Tampa Bay Downs announced on Wednesday that it is offering a US$1 million bonus to any 3YO that can win the 2014 Kentucky Derby as well as the Tampa Bay Derby and Sam F. Davis Stakes, reports drf.com. Hitherto, no horse has been successful in all three races, although five 3YOs have won both the Sam F. Davis and Tampa Bay Derby, the most recent being Burning Roma in 2001. The Florida track's reputation has been growing in recent years as a place to prepare a horse for Churchill Downs, with both 2010 Derby winner Super Saver and 2007 winner Street Sense using Tampa Bay as a springboard to Derby success. Peter Berube, the president of the track, said in a statement: "Nothing would make us happier than presenting $1 million to one of our owners…after the Run for the Roses on the first Saturday in May."
