Waller Delighted With Cup Aspirant Royal Descent
Sydney's leading trainer Chris Waller believes that 4YO mare Royal Descent (Redoute's Choice-Mulan Princess, by Kaapstad) has the requisite credentials to win Saturday's $2.5 million Gr1 Caulfield Cup (2400m), reports horseracing.com.au. Waller says he has been thrilled with Royal Descent's progress this campaign and believes she is peaking at just the right time. "I never get too confident because you get too disappointed but I think that she is a great chance," Waller said. "That is what we are in the game for; to have runners and strive to win these types of races and I think that she is as good a chance as you get." The Rosehill-based horseman, who will have four runners in Saturday's Cup, with Hawkspur, Moriarty & Kelinni also lining up, feels that Royal Descent is primed for a bold showing. "She is the right weight, coming off a good three-year-old campaign, and her first three runs were terrific including a Group 1 second over a mile," he said. "She has done everything right, she has a perfect gate with Nash on board, and there is a lot to like about her." Waller is yet to win a Caulfield Cup with his previous years runners Hawk Island (2011), Metal Bender (2008) & Triple Honour (2008) all missing the placings.
